A PRIVATE sandy beach fringed with swaying palms; translucent waters with cruise ships moving silently across the horizon.

Port Ferdinand is a glamorous marina offering berths as well as properties and is as close to paradise any serious sailor could wish to be.

Due for completion in 2017 properties are priced from $2.15 million for a two-bedroom apartment that includes a private berth but not a private pool. Popular with wealthy retirees, one buyer, a widower, said he was looking to live there, because of the resort’s safety, friendliness and security.

“People fall in love with the style and feel of Port Ferdinand,” said Resort Manager Geoff Farmer, a lovely, easy-going Barbadian with a trusting smile and good handshake. “I manage old style – I am very hands on,” he says. A keen diver – he loves night snorkelling at Cobbler’s cove during a full moon.
